Is The Past In The Present – A Nation In Decline

Is the past in the present? In everyone’s life, there comes a time when we begin to reflect back on how far we have come on this journey called life. I’ve heard people say, “The past is the past; you can’t change it.” But think about this, if you will; is the past in the present? Is it possible that history repeats itself? People say fashion trends repeat themselves, “if you have old clothes hang on to them, they will come back in style one day.” I’m not talking about that.

The quote “Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it” is attributed to the American philosopher George Santayana and it can be accurately quoted as “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” as stated in his work, The Life of Reason: Reason in Common Sense, published in 1905. Is the past in the present and if so, then why? Is it that we have forgotten history? Why is it that some are trying to erase some of our history? Or is it we just go about our daily lives focused on ourselves and aren’t really paying attention to what is unfolding in the nation that we call home?

“Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it”

As I began to seriously study the bible several years back, I began to notice something incredible. It started while studying the Old Testament. I began to see stark similarities between what I was reading in the Old Testament to what is happening in our nation today. I thought to myself, is the past in the present? I remember telling my wife that what I was reading in the Old Testament was all happening in our country today. It was like reading the headlines of the news.

This Will Not End Well – Life Today

Now I am in no way some biblical scholar. I am not writing this article to spur some theological debate. I am simply sharing what I see as an obvious correlation between events that happened over two thousand years ago and what I see happening in our country today. The past is unfolding in the present-day life of our nation. Unfortunately though, if the past is a reflection of what is happening in the present, this is not going to end well for us as a nation.

I remember reading through some of the early writing, such as Numbers, Judges, Deuteronomy, the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, and several others thinking about how this relates to me today. Then it hit me. I saw how the people of Israel began to turn their backs on God and begin to worship other gods. One of those, in particular, was named Baal. But before I go on, let me ask you, does it seem as if our nation has turned away from God?

Church attendance is at all-time lows. We have allowed God to be removed from just about every public event and venue imaginable. Prayer is no longer allowed in schools, has our education system improved?  They have practically banned any type of prayer or mention of God in government, has our government improved any? There is now mounting pressure on school boards to become “more inclusive.” Sexual perversion and homosexuality are openly celebrated and exposed to our children as if this were to be accepted as “normal” behavior in the guise of “inclusivity.”

We’ve allowed millions of our unborn children to be slaughtered in the womb out of convenience or “choice,” as is often mentioned. They sacrificed children for Baahl in Sodom and Gomorrah so that their crops would be fertile (possessions), among other things! How did it end up for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah when God’s people turned away from Him to embrace other gods? {Let me tell you, just in case you aren’t familiar, it ended in total destruction by God’s judgment upon them.} Is the past in the present?

Drug abuse deaths are out of control as well in our country, and the suicide rate is at record-high levels. We see cities legalizing open drug use, and they are now even providing the tools necessary to consume them. Do you ever wonder why there is such hopelessness in a nation as great as ours?

A Country Divided Will Fall

I’m sure by now unless you have been living under a rock somewhere, you realize the division within this country. Red or blue, left or right, rich or poor, gay or straight, black or white, Christian or not, and the list goes on and on. Why is that? Why are we becoming so divided? Continue reading.

“Divide and Conquer”

[In politics, the concept refers to a strategy that breaks up existing power structures and especially prevents smaller power groups from linking up, causing rivalries and fomenting discord among the people to prevent a rebellion against the elites or the people implementing the strategy. The goal is either to pit the lower classes against themselves to prevent a revolution or to provide a desired solution to the growing discord that strengthens the power of the elites.]

[The principle “divide et impera” is cited as common in politics by Traiano Boccalini in La Bilancia Politica.] Wikipedia

If you take a step back and look at our nation from a 1,000-foot-above perspective, you can see that this division is permeating our culture like a deadly virus. Don’t be fooled; this division is purposely orchestrated, and it’s all about power. The goal is to keep us pitted against each other and distracted while the elite rob us blind and rule over more and more of our everyday lives. Create a problem, then provide the solution, socialism at its best.

Evil has joined forces with the power-hungry elite as they move from one thing to another sewing division. If it’s not race, it’s religion, then income, politics, sexual identity, or gender equality. Do you see how this is implemented? The one common goal is division! Our nation, or any nation for that matter, cannot survive as a free nation if it is divided and in chaos. Their plan is working. Americans are so self-focused that most aren’t even paying attention to what is happening around them. They are more focused on possessions, work, entertainment, the latest gadgets, trending hashtags on social media, new vehicles, the bigger house, more, more, and more. These things have become their gods.

If The Past Is In The Present How Does This End?

First off let me say that I am pro-American all the way! I also know that God is on the throne! There is a small minority of evil working against the greater good of all pushing their evil agenda in hopes that we as God-fearing Americans will accept this under the guise of “inclusion”. We are at a fork in the road as Americans and believers in Christ, we take a stand now for what this great Nation was founded upon, “One Nation Under God” or we cower in our self-centered corners living in fear and watching as this nation is destroyed. If the past is in the present this is not going to end well for this nation, read your Bibles. What happened to Sodom and Gomorrah?

As a nation, we have faced difficult times in the past, but this is much worse. There is so much corruption in Washington and in the media that one never knows what or who to believe. Turn to God! We the people have the power and the authority to right this ship and get back on course, but it’s going to take everyone working together under God’s authority. If the past is in the present, we have a choice, a choice between good and evil. Our God is a loving God, but He is also a just God who will not be mocked nor allow sin to go unpunished. How bad does it have to get before we stand up and say NO MORE?

It’s Time To Take Action

I encourage you if you are a believer in Christ and love this great country to refocus and reengage in the things that make America great. Focus on your spiritual walk, what is your part in this struggle? We all have a voice. Press into God and seek His wisdom and direction. We all play a part in making this nation what it is. Think about our children and grandchildren. What are we leaving for them? If, in the future, they look back over history will they say that my parents and grandparents fought the good fight? What legacy are we leaving? Why do you think the evil is after our children, the next generation? Because they know that they have the power to continue this fight against evil. I encourage you to pray, seek God, and take a stand for what is right. Take a stand, let your voice be heard, and let’s restore this nation to One Nation Under God.
